Raspberry Pi, the name was originated from Raspberry (the fruit) and Pi (from Python Programming Language).

It uses the Linux Operating System that serves as Pi’s operating system called Raspbian. So what really makes this device interesting is not just mounting small parts to the motherboard like a camera or display.

The 40 pins general purpose input/output or GPIO is used to connect the Raspberry Pi to everything whether it is a monitor or weather station or any Robot.

5. You Need to Spend More than $35

After buying, Raspberry Pi in just $35. Definitely, you’ll need to buy a separate monitor, keyboard, etc to make it work. So you may have to spend some extra money to make the magic happen.

6. How Does It Work?

Well, it contains a built-in RAM and a CPU in a Broadcom chipset. Even, a single chip on the board is controlling USB and Ethernet interface which can cause disaster if you use your computer heavily.

7. Is It A Desktop Replacement?

Even though it runs on a Linux platform you’ll experience a nice looking GUI with a web browser and some inbuilt games. As far as I know, you can’t use it as a desktop replacement.

For instance, the web browser is nice but opening more than 1 or 2 tabs will make it freeze and you’ll have a bad experience. Even, you can’t run any big programs such as Photoshop.

FYI, it was not meant for any regular desktop user but it has a lot to do with robotics and IOT’s.
